Whether online or in the classroom, ECED 150 can be a course requiring your attention and time. . During the semester, you will have to read several chapters from your textbook, visit various websites, view PowerPoint presentations, and go through tutorials, take practice quizzes, complete several writing assignments. Students who can follow written instructions and learn through reading on their own have the best chance of succeeding. Along with the assignment load, working online can be a challenge. Computer-savvy students who are comfortable with the keyboard do best. If you don't learn well
on your own or are unsure of yourself on the computer, you should reconsider
whether you are suited for this course right now. To help you determine
whether an online English course is the right choice for you, look over the
“Online Readiness Checklist” under “Getting Started” on the SJC Virtual
Campus webpage. See the list of links at the end of the page to go to
"Getting Started." |

You will
need to spend as much time on this online course as you would in any writing
course. An in-class version of ECED 1150 meets 2 hours per week. As a rule,
for every hour you are in class, you need to spend a minimum of 2 hours studying.
So, 2 + (2 x 2) = 8 hours per week. Don't sign up for the course unless you
are able to commit a great deal of time to it. |

|
No, this
class does not work well as a self-paced class because the assignments build
upon one another. You will need feedback on earlier assignments before you
can complete later assignments successfully. With the amount of work involved
in the course, deadlines will help you stay on track. Since this course
attempts to replicate the environment in the workplace, the instructor will
not allow late work, but will allow students to work ahead of schedule. |
|
|
The course space is limited—if you enroll and then don’t participate, or drop the course early on, be aware that you are depriving another student (who may not have other options for completing the course) of this opportunity. If you are serious about taking ECED 150 online, follow these steps:
