operational memorandum # 12
to: all san juan college staff and full-time and adjunct faculty
from: dr. carol j. spencer, president
subject: disk space limits
date: October 27, 2003
San Juan College maintains a File Server for the purposes of providing disk space for faculty and staff files related to their work at the college. Individual’s files are stored on the college’s primary file server, “Piggy”, represented by the H: Drive network mapping. These files are only accessible by the owner of the folder unless shared by the owner. By storing files on the “H: Drive” or server, faculty and staff are assured that they will be backed-up and can be restored in case of accidental deletion.
In the past, there has been no limit on the amount of disk space that an individual could use on the college’s file server. Over the last several years, disk space use by faculty and staff has increased significantly. In order to better manage this college resource, disk space will be limited to 1 Gigabyte per employee. This restriction on disk space will only affect a small percentage of employees, but should reduce the used disk space by approximately fifty percent.
As of January 1, 2004 all SJC employees’ file server folders will be limited to 1 Gigabyte of storage. This means that once a folder reaches 1 Gigabyte, no additional files may be stored in that folder.
Exceptions to the policy must be approved by the appropriate Vice President.
