Online Advising Page

Welcome to Online Advising!

We are here to assist you in becoming a San Juan College student and to guide you along on your educational journey.

"What do I need to do to become a distance student at San Juan College?" Well, first you should check out the Online Next Steps -- it lists the steps you will need to take to get started. You should also check out the Online Students page.

Accuplacer

How do I take the Accuplacer at a distance?  First check out the Frequently Asked Questions about the Accuplacer.

To take the Accuplacer at a distance, you must locate a proctor to administer it to you. We suggest that you go to the testing center of a local community college or university. Please download the Student Proctor Information sheet that explains the process, and read it throughly.

Students must email   onlineadvisor@sanjuancollege.edu  when they have located a proctor. Include the proctor's name and contact information along with your full name, birthdate, and academic program. Failure to do this may delay your Accuplacer testing.

Brush up for the test  We always advise students to brush up and be mentally prepared for the test, because your scores determine your course placement in English, reading, and math. You can also practice taking the Accuplacer: go to http://www.sanjuancollege.edu/accuplacer. You also can download Accuplacer sample questions.

Make an appointment with your proctor to take the test. After you complete the Accuplacer, your proctor should inform us that youhave completed it. Then an Advisor will contact you to go over your scores and help you plan your classes.

Deadlines:

Please note that you should complete the Accuplacer at least one month before classes start.

To enroll in classes for our spring semester which starts January 11, 2010, you must complete the Accuplacer by 5 pm, December 11, 2009.

Please also note that San Juan College is closed from December 18, 2009 at 5 pm until January 4, 2010 at 8 am.

Financial Aid

If you wish to apply for Financial Aid go to http://www.sanjuancollege.edu/financialaid This process takes time so the sooner you apply, the sooner you will know whether you have been awarded financial aid.To ensure financial aid will be in place by the established drop date, January 8, 2010, all appropriate applications and required documents must be complete and received by the Financial Aid office by December 1, 2009. Incomplete or late applications will be processed but  awards may not be finalized by the drop date.  Email financialaid@sanjuancollege.edu with your questions and concerns.

New Student Orientation

When you have completed all those steps and know which classes you need, you must take the New Student Orientation online: https://www.sanjuancollege.edu/studentonlineorientation. This orientation gives the contact information for each of our online programs: HIT, PTA, VET and Occupational Safety. You also need to pay attention to the orientation  because you will learn your username and password. Your advisor will receive notice that you have completed it and will unblock you so that you may register.

Registration for new distance students opens December 8, 2009, if you have completed all steps. Please note that online classes fill rapidly.

Tuition:

Tuition for Spring semester must be paid in full by 5 pm, January 8, 2010. You will not receive a bill. To avoid being dropped January 8, 2010, students must 1) have paid tuition in full; or 2) be signed up for the student payment plan, Nelnet; or 3) have a financial aid award in place. Contact the Business Office at 505.566.3396 or Dana Husted at hustedd@sanjuancollege.edu for more information. Please note: You can check on your financial aid and your bill and make a payment using WebAdvisor.

Registration:

If you are a new student or have earned less than 25 credit hours, you must contact an advisor and have your student account unblocked before you may register. Please note that for some online programs, such as HIT,VET, and PTA, the directors of those programs register students in the specialized courses.. You should be in contact with your program director. THe online orientation has the contact information for those programs.
