Testing for College CreditGeneral InformationPrior learning assessment is a means of obtaining college credit for knowledge gained on the job or through individual study. Students at San Juan College can earn as many as 30 credits by examination through either Advanced Placement or CLEP scores. For consideration for Advanced Placement credit, you must have a minimum score of three or better and have official test scores submitted to the Admissions Office. CLEP credit is awarded to students who score at the required level. Official test results of this examination must also be sent to the Admissions Office. Credit based on CLEP and AP appears on the transcripts as credit. No letter grade is recorded for this type of credit. A total of 30 semester credits can be earned through examination. CLEP ExamsThe College Level Examination Program offers 35 computer based examinations for a wide variety of subjects. San Juan College students may receive credit for up to 30 semester hours by examination. The SJC Testing Center is an open CLEP testing site. If you are a student at SJC or any other college, you may take your CLEP exam at the SJC Testing Center. Transcripts will be sent to the college or university that the examinee designates at the time of the test. Students must bring appropriate payment and identification with them on the test date or they will not be permitted to test. Two separate payments are required for the CLEP exam. The SJC scheduling fee must be paid at the Business Office prior to the exam. We will not confirm a scheduled appointment without the receipt number. The receipt must be brought with you at the time of the test to document payment. The SJC Business Office, located in the Educational Services Center building (clock tower), accepts a variety of forms of payment such as cash, check, money order, and debit or credit card. CLEP accepts credit card, check or money orders only.
CLEP and SJC strongly encourage candidates to use a major credit card for the CLEP payment. Bring this credit card with you on your test date. More information about the computer-based test can be found at the Collegeboard On-Line |
