The San Juan College Summer Bridge Program is a great opportunity for you to explore the many health care education programs available to you. In addition, you will learn valuable skills that empower you to succeed in your college science and health care courses.

WHEN IS THE BRIDGE PROGRAM HELD?
The Bridge Program will be held June 1 - 19, 2009. Most of the activities will occur between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, with social and outdoor activities held in the evenings and on the weekends.

WHO MAY ATTEND?
The Bridge Program is open to anyone who has graduated high school or received a GED, or will do so by June 1, 2009. It is available to students who have never attended college, as well as students who are working on their health care program pre-requisites at San Juan College. The program is designed around the values and traditions of the Native American cultures of the four-corners region, but is open to all students, regardless of cultural background or age. All you need to participate is an interest in health care occupations, and a willingness to commit to the entire three week program.

WHERE WILL IT BE HELD?
The Bridge Program will be held primarily at the campus of San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. Optional free housing, activities and meals will be provided at Navaho Prep High School for those students who also want to experience a residential component. Transportation to campus from Shiprock, Kirtland, and other communities may be provided as needed.

In addition to classroom sessions and activities, numerous outdoor activities will be scheduled. The most prominent of these will be a river rafting and camping trip. On this trip, you will get to know your college instructors, advisers and tutors.

WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
The Bridge Program is designed to prepare you for the rigor and culture of health care education programs. The program is designed to be activity-based, with very few lectures or presentations. You will discover in yourself the skills and strengths necessary to succeed in challenging courses and programs. In addition, you will receive two college credits for completing the program. Among other topics, you will learn more about:

  • Study skills and test-taking skills designed specifically for science and health science
