READING and STUDY GROUPS

2009-2010

o   Is there a book you’d like to read and discuss with a group of your colleagues?
o   Would you like to learn more about a topic related to teaching, learning, or managing?
o   Is there some aspect of teaching or presenting that you’d like to discuss and practice among colleagues?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider creating or participating in a CTX Reading or Study Group. Both groups are led by a facilitator and meet 3-6 times in a semester, but differ in their focus. Reading Groups focus on one specific book (purchased through the CTX or another department) while Study Groups focus on a topic, and may include discussions based on readings, videos, classroom demonstrations and other activities.

Participating in a Group
The CTX Reading and Study Groups provide an opportunity for on-going, in-depth learning and professional development, and so we ask potential group participants to make a commitment to attend all meetings (or, at least, to make your best effort to miss no more than one meeting). If you know ahead of time that the time and date of the group will be problematic for your schedule, please wait to join until the group is offered again.

The CTX can help you locate a facilitator from among our talented San Juan College faculty and staff, or we will support and train you, if you choose to facilitate the group.
