Technical Theatre

All the world’s a stage – and whether you want to be onstage acting or backstage running the show, the technical theatre program at San Juan College can prepare you to face the stage lights – or light the stage.

San Juan College has a very unique Technical Theatre program. Our goal is to provide students with ample opportunities to not only study theatre but to produce it as well. The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Technical Theatre will introduce you to acting as well as teaching you backstage skills:

  • Set Design
  • Stage Management
  • Directing
  • Costuming
  • Theatrical Makeup
  • Theatrical Lighting
  • Sound

Our theatre program is supported by dedicated faculty with strong educational and professional credentials who will help you put your knowledge into action. You will work backstage and perform in three major productions each year in our 800-seat Performance Hall, 200-seat Little Theatre, and a 60-seat Black Box Theatre. In addition, you will mentor high school theatre students in an annual theatre festival. This immersion in hands-on instruction and practical application will provide you the skills to enter a four-year college or pursue a career in technical theatre.

Wages and information are based on national data and may vary based on your training, experience, and the market for the career in your area.
