Student Employment

Student Employment or Work Study is funded through Financial Aid. Student Employment positions can be on campus or at select off-campus partners. The Student Employment program is a great way for students to gain work experience and job skills to prepare for life after college.

To be eligible for Student Employment, you MUST:

  • Have completed the FAFSA process, including for the academic year that employment is requested
  • Be enrolled in at least six credit hours
  • Not concurrently be employed as a regular San Juan College employee or student employee
  • Meet including:
    • Enrolled in and making progress toward graduation from a San Juan College Financial Aid-approved program
    • Have a cumulative course completion of at least 67%
    • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
    • Have a financial need

If you are interested in working part-time as a Student Employee, start the process by completing a Request for Student Employment. Once we receive your request, the Center for Student Careers and Employment will contact you regarding your eligibility.

As of January 1, 2022, all student employees will be paid $11.50/hr in accordance with our state minimum wage increase.

 

A Student Employee can work up to 20 hours per week.

 

Student Employees are paid just as regular San Juan College employees. If you are hired as a Student Employee, you will be paid via check or direct deposit every two weeks.

 

 

Student Employment is only for current San Juan College students who are enrolled in at least six credit hours. However, you can access SJC Get Hired to view other part-time and full-time positions. 

 

Student Employment should be treated like a regular part-time job. If you are hired as a Student Employee, you will want to be sure you show up to work on time and communicate with your supervisor about any absences. Be sure to ask your supervisor questions to understand your job duties fully. A positive attitude and friendly demeanor will also help you succeed in your student-employee position.

If you are interested in a Student Employment position for the Fall semester, the best time to apply is in July.

If you are interested in a Student Employment position for the Spring semester, the best time to apply would be in November.

If you are interested in Student Employment for the Summer semester, the best time to apply would be in April.

You want to be sure that you have completed the FAFSA process, including submitting verification documents, and you want to be sure you are enrolled in at least six credit hours before you complete the Request for Student Employment

Student Employment jobs change frequently throughout the semester. You can check out the most current student-employee job openings through SJC Get Hired.  

If you have submitted a Student Employment application for the current academic year, you will want to log into SJC Get Hired frequently to check and see what new jobs are available. Remember, you can always edit the survey you initially submitted to us to apply for different positions. Refer to the Student Employment Guide you received after submitting your employment application.

 

Students are eligible for Student Internships if they are eligible for Student Employment through Financial Aid. Student Internships are off campus positions that place students with an employer that is related to their major. Student Interns are paid at a higher rate and can earn up to $13.00 per hour depending on their internship. Student Interns can work up to 20 hours per week. If you are interested in becoming a Student Intern, you would still need to complete the Request for Student Employment so we can check your eligibility.
