SJC held its first-ever NC3 National Letter of Intent Signing Day for incoming freshmen students for the 2022-23 school year to recognize their intention to pursue a technical career pathway.
This national event, sponsored by the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work. Dozens of technical institutions across the country host signing day ceremonies joined together by live, nationwide simulcasts.
The career technical education pathways included in the national Signing Day are Arts, Communication & Humanities; Business & Entrepreneurship; Computer Science, Information Technology & Cybersecurity; Education, Social Science & Public Safety; Energy, Manufacturing & Transportation; and Science, Math & Engineering.
“By encouraging our incoming students to sign Letters of Intent, we’re telling them that we’ve reserved a place for them, and we want them,” says Dr. Ruben Johnson, dean of Trades and Technology. “Technical education will prepare them for a strong career. Industry leaders are excited about this opportunity because it validates the student and provides an opportunity for industry representatives to meet these future workers.”
Together with NC3’s global industry partners, local area business and community leaders participated in Signing Day both to show support and to provide information to students and their families.
