San Juan College (SJC) is gearing up for a day of celebration that’s all about children.

Blaze with a little Girl

On Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon, families are invited to enjoy the fun and experience the vibrant spirit of Día de los Niños, or Children’s Day, at the SJC Learning Commons Plaza.

Día de los Niños originated in Mexico in 1925 and is now embraced worldwide as a day to honor and recognize the invaluable role children play in our society.

Arely Caro, Director of the SJC ENLACE/Herencia Latina Center, is excited to host the annual celebration, saying, “It provides children an opportunity for fun and games and the enjoyment of a day dedicated specifically to them. Additionally, it offers parents a chance to gain valuable insights and needed information.”

More than 20 community organizations will make this a special day for families with games, music, prizes and information about upcoming summer events and programming for children. Participants include the Farmington and Bloomfield Public Libraries, the E3 Children’s Museum, Kids Kollege, Sycamore Park Community Center, Save the Children, Amplified Therapy, Blue Print Art Studio, and the Farmington Boys and Girls Club, among many others.

The Farmington Fire Department will be there, and the Farmington Police Department will offer free fingerprinting for children, with Safer NM conducting free child safety seat inspections. The Colores Club will sell concessions as a student club fundraiser. Día de los Niños promises to be a day filled with fun and excitement and the recognition of the importance of children, culture and heritage in strengthening families. It’s an event that brings the community together, celebrates diversity and fosters a sense of togetherness.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon at the San Juan College Learning Commons/Graduation Plaza to be part of this memorable celebration.
