These awards, made possible through the generosity of community donors and the San Juan College Foundation, celebrate excellence in teaching, service, and leadership.

During the Spring 2025 Convocation, faculty and staff were honored for their dedication to student success, innovation, and commitment to the College’s mission.

President’s Mission Awards

Presented by San Juan College President Dr. Toni Hopper Pendergrass, the President’s Mission Awards recognize individuals who go above and beyond in service to the College. Each recipient receives an engraved plaque and a $300 cash award.

Faculty Award: Cameron Cooper

  • Position: Associate Professor of Computer Science – School of Business & Information Technology Studies
  • Achievements:
    • Celebrated for his lasting impact on students and the College as he retires.
    • Played a pivotal role in securing the prestigious Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) designation, making SJC the first community college in New Mexico to receive this National Security Agency recognition.
    • Recognized for innovative course design, excellence in teaching, and mentoring future cybersecurity professionals.

Adjunct Faculty Award: Travis Robinson

  • Position: Adjunct Instructor – School of Trades and Technology, Fire Science
  • Achievements:
    • Recognized for going above and beyond to support student success.
    • Adapts teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
    • Demonstrates strong dedication to students and colleagues by stepping in to cover classes when needed.

Professional Staff Award: Stacey Allen

  • Position: Human Resources Compliance Officer, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer, Title IX/504 ADA Coordinator
  • Achievements:
    • 26-year veteran of San Juan College, impacting multiple departments.
    • Leads critical initiatives, including Title IX policy updates to align with evolving regulations.
    • Advocates for awareness of sexual assault prevention and support resources.
    • Recognized for her commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and service.

Support Staff Award: Melissa Rodriquez

  • Position: Copy Services Technician
  • Achievements:
    • 12 years of service, demonstrating teamwork and dedication.
    • Plays a key role in the smooth operation of Copy Services.
    • Recognized for going the extra mile to support students, faculty, and staff across departments.

San Juan College Foundation Awards

Annabelle Friddle Outstanding Educator Award: Britany Nichols

  • Position: Assistant Professor – School of Health Sciences
  • Achievements:
    • 19-year tenure at SJC, inspiring students through exceptional teaching and mentorship.
    • Creates a welcoming, respectful learning environment where students feel valued.
    • Balances high academic expectations with approachability and compassion.
    • This student-nominated award includes a $2,500 cash prize, generously provided by the late Annabelle Friddle.

Jane and Stuart Wilson Professional Staff Award: Mindi-Kim Schrum

  • Position: Senior Director of Financial Aid
  • Achievements:
    • 27 years of service, starting as an SJC student before becoming a dedicated leader.
    • Committed to removing financial barriers and helping students access higher education.
    • Embodies the College’s mission and values, ensuring financial aid processes are efficient and student-friendly.
    • Award includes a $500 stipend.

The Golden Sun Award: Jill Bishop

  • Position: Director, Center for Student Careers and Employment
  • Achievements:
    • 9 years at SJC, building strong relationships with students, faculty, and community partners.
    • Recognized for her expertise, collaboration, and dedication to student career success.
    • Led efforts to streamline career services and increase paid student work opportunities.
    • The Golden Sun Award, passed from one recipient to another, includes a $300 stipend, made possible by San Juan College Foundation supporters.
